The flexible extension to business technology capabilities

At OCS, we understand that bringing external people in to extend your business technology capabilities is not without its challenges.  Significant amounts of time can be spent inducting the individuals and ensuring they have a working environment.  When those same individuals leave, too often the value they have obtained beyond the specific work they delivered is lost or difficult to retain.

Our focus on staff retention and our multiple contact strategy enables knowledge sharing beyond individuals, benefiting current assignments as well as aiding future engagements.

Some examples of the type of roles or services our consultants provide are:

Delivery based services:

The traditional and still popular engagement style for consultancy engagements is delivery based.  Delivery based services provide clients with higher confidence levels in the quality, timing and costs of services.  The deliverables may be software, documentation or outcomes based.  The commercial engagement complements the delivery engagement sought to produce high client satisfaction ratings for this service.

Secondment based services:

All secondment based consultancy assignments have a least one senior OCS manager overseeing the consultant's activities, even when the client is providing direct management on the consultant's activities.  Why, because to ensure we are thinking about our services we need to ensure we remain engaged in the service, similar to how we would be if we were directly responsible for the service delivery.

As our consultants are staff, we can work on the basis you require, whether this is full-time, part-time, short term or long term and our basis can change to suit your organisation's or project's needs.

With our consultants we can offer much greater flexibility and more targeted skills and experience than can be offered by independent IT contractors and most other consultancies where utilisation is the business goal.

Hybrid services:

It is not uncommon that a client will seek a mixture of secondment and delivery based services.  Commonly this hybrid service is most effective when being able to respond effectively without the need to have committed resources for specific applications or systems being commissioned.  OCS' Universal Contract is the commercial package that enables us to meet this sort of client delivery expectation.

Custom Software Engineering - Application Development:

Once a client has maximised value from their existing technology, they may choose to extend the platform by expanding the underlying systems or undertaking custom software engineering.

To support our clients with custom software engineering or more often expressed as Application Development, we have a development lab capable of supporting teams of up to 30 people, though it is more common for the team to vary between 3 and 6 people.  We operate and adopt proven best practices, both technological and methodological, to ensure our clients receive high quality software, whilst our staff continually advance their skills and experiences.

With technology we are pragmatists rather than evangelists.  Currently the common development languages and environments we are working with are Java, Microsoft .NET and SharePoint. However, we also assist clients with less popular technologies, such as Ruby, FoxPro, PowerBuilder, UNIFACE, ADABAS/Natural, SAS Software and others.
